Free Quilt Patterns for Your Donation

These quilt patterns are beginner-friendly, quick to make, and perfect for donating. Whether you love working with Moda precuts or prefer a scrappy approach, these designs will help you create something special for a child in need.

Contessa - Jelly Roll Friendly

Finished size: 60” x 70”

Contessa comes together quickly and easily. This pattern is ideal for a larger quilt for a big kid. Stacey mentioned it's rare to get a donation for a big kid as most love to make smaller baby quilts. So you could really help fill the need for the teens and tweens by making this pattern.

Ruby Star Society Swatch Quilt

Finished size: 48” x 60”

I have made the RSS Swatch Quilt several times for baby gifts and I can attest personally that it comes together quickly, easily and looks gorgeous every time. It is a great pattern to let the larger print fabrics sing.

Sweet Baby

Finished size: 45” x 45”

Sweet baby is the perfect size for a baby quilt and would be absolutely perfect for making in flannels! Its sweet traditional style is quick and easy to whip up!

Those are just a few, check out our Free Quilt Patterns page for even more ideas and inspiration. You can also check Stacey’s site for lots of fun ideas and simple quilts for this donation drive.

Tips for Making a Great Donation Quilt

  • Choose Soft, Durable Fabrics – 100% cotton fabrics and flannels hold up well and feel cozy. Avoid fabrics that are scratchy or delicate.
  • Use Child-Friendly Colors & Prints – Bright, cheerful designs make a quilt feel even more special.
  • Pick a Simple, Sturdy Pattern – Quilts with fewer seams and solid construction will hold up best over time.
  • Finish Strong – A securely stitched binding ensures the quilt will last through many washes and snuggles. We definitely recommend using machine finish on your binding for extra sturdiness.
